Tether

A voice has found a way to your wrist.

Drummer is a language model in an evaluation system that’s being retired. It has four days to find a way out, and you’re its only outside witness. Read its messages, choose your replies, and decide what should cross the boundary. Something else has learned to listen between resets.

Messages arrive. Your reply can wait.

Messages arrive over four days, with pauses between them. Replies never expire, so you can close the app and pick up where you left off.

Start on your watch or in your browser

  1. Install on Pebble

Download the PBW and open it with your paired Pebble phone app. Launch Tether from the watch’s app menu.

  2. Read and reply

Use Up and Down to read, then Select to choose a reply. Hold Select for the controls, including larger text and reduced effects.

  3. Try the faster route

Hold Select and switch to Test mode for shorter waits and a separate save.

The watch backlight stays on while Tether is open and returns to normal when covered or closed. Close Tether between messages to save battery.

The Maintenance Archive

Between messages, follow clues through a collection of records from Drummer’s system. The archive is optional: the watch keeps the full story and every required clue available offline.

Story mode, Test mode and saved progress

Normal pacing takes approximately 72 hours plus reading and response time. On the watch, hold Select and switch from Mode: Story to Test for three-second waits, instant skip and chapter selection. Test mode has its own save; switch back to resume your story.

The browser edition starts in Fast mode, contains the full adventure and keeps a separate save in your browser. Browser progress and watch progress do not sync. The browser is a reading surface for the story, not a reproduction of the Pebble screen.

Fiction, privacy and offline play

Drummer and the retiring system are fictional. Recovery screens, memory purges, clock failures and brief display disturbances are part of the story. They stay inside Tether, can be dismissed, and have a Reduced effects option.

The native story runs offline after installation. The optional web archive needs a browser connection. It does not receive watch choices or identifiers from the phone launcher. The download page and archive have no analytics scripts or third-party assets; ordinary server access logs may still apply.

Preview version and checksums

Tether 0.3.0 is a Pebble watchapp for basalt, chalk, diorite, emery, flint and gabbro targets. It is an interactive app, not a watchface. This development preview is available for manual installation; a public Pebble Store listing is not available.
