Minimal Accessible

Puzzles for one switch, a look, or a tap.

Minimal Accessible is seventeen small puzzles made to play without fine hand control. The first screen asks how you play: one switch (any key, button or switch), Look and hold (an eye tracker, the phone’s camera, or a pointer), or Touch. Then you pick how big the tiles should be.

Four games are played by looking: Glance, Glyph, Pursuit and Shoo. In Nod you tip the trays by tilting your head. Noon, Sweep and Ticker ask for a press at the right moment. The rest are logic puzzles that take one choice at a time: Notan, Tilt, Akari, Weave, Slant, Bridges, Loop, Spiral Galaxies and Fold.

The same games play in a browser on the Minimal board, and the looking and switch games are gathered on Motor Accessibility Puzzles. For the full Minimal set on Android, see Minimal Primitives.

Pursuit: follow the ring you want, and it comes to rest.
Shoo, playing: a bee on a honeycomb flies away from where you look, toward the black hive.

Nod: tilt your head to tip the trays.
Noon, playing: clock hands sweep, and each clock pressed at twelve fills black.
Noon: press as a clock reaches twelve.
Sweep, playing: the highlight moves along the rows, tiles flip, and the solved board turns color.
Sweep: press for the row, then the tile.
Ticker, a listening game: headphones in a ring with two circles while the ticks play, so the picture barely moves.
Ticker: press on the beat you hear.
Notan, playing: a two-by-two grid fills black and white to match the row and column counts.
Notan: shade squares to match the counts.
Tilt, playing: the marble rolls across the upper tray and drops into the hole in the lower one.
Tilt: tip the trays to drop the marble in the hole.
Akari, playing: a lamp lights a row of squares, then the next lamp goes down.
Akari: light every open square.
Slant, playing: a diagonal is drawn to meet the number at a corner, then the next board appears.
Slant: draw diagonals that meet each number.
Bridges, playing: two numbered islands are joined by a double bridge, then the next board appears.
Bridges: join the islands, matching each number.
Spiral Galaxies, playing: regions are drawn around small diamond centers, one board after another.
Spiral Galaxies: split the board into shapes around each center.
Fold, playing: a paper grid folds over so its holes land on the black dots.
Fold: fold the paper so every hole meets a dot.
Loop mid-game: white curved lines on black, almost closed into loops.
Loop: turn tiles until every line closes.

Install

  1. Open the downloaded APK. If Android asks, let your browser install apps.
  2. Had a test build? Uninstall it first. Android won’t replace a test build with this release, and uninstalling removes its saved games.
  3. Home, at the top of every game, returns to the list.

What stays on the phone

There’s no account. Players, settings and saved games stay in the app, and every game plays offline.

The app asks for two permissions: the camera and the internet. Android asks about the camera only when you start it in a game, to play by looking or by tilting your head. The picture is read on the phone and never leaves it.

The internet is used for one thing. When the phone is online, seven of the puzzles (Notan, Tilt, Akari, Slant, Bridges, Spiral Galaxies and Fold) load an anonymous page counter from stats.dr.eamer.dev. It counts that a game was opened. It doesn’t record who you are or how you play.
