Local Inference

Luke Steuber built Local Inference as a native macOS workspace. This policy explains what happens to information when you use the app.

Information stored on your Mac

Local Inference does not require a developer-operated account. Conversation history, plans, pins, provider selections, tool preferences, service status, and other nonsecret settings are stored on your Mac. Provider and web-search credentials are stored in the macOS Keychain.

Information sent when you choose a connected service

Local-only requests are sent to compatible services on your Mac. When you select a connected model provider, the app sends the content needed to fulfill your request directly to that provider. This can include your prompt, relevant conversation history, tool results, generation settings, and a reference image you selected. The chosen provider processes that information under its own terms and privacy policy.

Optional weather, Wikipedia, arXiv, and web-search tools send the query needed to return the result. Remote artifact images are loaded only after you choose to load them.

Information the developer does not collect

Local Inference includes no developer-operated analytics, advertising, tracking, telemetry, or crash-reporting service. The developer does not receive your conversation history, provider credentials, prompts, generated images, or tool results through the app.

How information is used and shared

Information is processed only to provide the feature you requested. It is not sold, rented, used to build advertising profiles, or used to track you across apps or websites. Information is shared only with a service you deliberately select, or when disclosure is required by law.

Retention and deletion

Local content remains on your Mac until you delete it or remove the app’s data. You can remove provider credentials from Settings. Retention by a connected provider is controlled by that provider and your account settings with it.

Security

Credentials use the macOS Keychain. Connected providers and remote tools use encrypted HTTPS connections. No transmission or storage method is completely secure, but the app minimizes the information it handles and does not operate a server that receives your content.

Children

Local Inference is not directed to children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices and rights

You control which providers and tools are enabled. You can delete local conversations and credentials at any time. Requests concerning information held by a connected provider should be directed to that provider. For questions about this policy, use the contact path on the support page.

Changes

This policy may be updated when app behavior or legal requirements change. The effective date above will be revised when that happens.
